Signs to Be on the Lookout For
Having any lumps or bumps that show up on your gums are one of the first signs you are likely to notice. These bumps can be painful, slightly uncomfortable, or completely painless. They may be raised up slightly, or they may be quite large. If you notice a bump like this anywhere on your gums that doesn't go away within a day or two, or that continues to grow, call your dentist.Lesions on the insides of your mouth, especially on or immediately around your gums, are also common signs of gum cancer. Getting a small cut from eating something sharp happens easily, and can lead to a red lesion in your mouth. However, when those lesions do not want to heal within a few days, it is time to see someone about them.
If you notice anything other than bright pink gums tightly pressed up against your teeth, talk to your dentist. It is always better to ask and know, than to wait and wonder. If your dentist believes there is any type of an issue, they will contact your periodontist and have you go in for a second-opinion to ensure your mouth is healthy.
