When Receding Gums Become Painful

Receding gums are one of the more common side effects of having gum disease. The problem is, they don't typically hurt until they get pretty far advanced. Gum disease is something that many adults have, and only some of them know about.

It is nearly painless at the beginning, showing only a few symptoms, such as bleeding gums. If your gums have started to recede, you are to the point of having more advanced gum disease than just the infant stages.

Without Treatment, Gum Disease Just Continues to Get Worse

If you don't get your gum disease treated when the first symptoms are the only ones treated, it is going to progressively get worse. You will go from bleeding gums and some gum swelling, to gum recession and gum pockets, and eventually this will lead to tooth loss.

When gums recede, they slide back down your tooth towards the root. This happens because the gum tissue is dying. The lower the gums go, the more likely you are to experience pain.

Once the gums get low enough, the root of your tooth becomes exposed to everything going on in your mouth. Not only is this going to become painful, but this is also going to expose your tooth to the potential of tooth decay. This is what leads to tooth loss.

Instead of letting your gum disease progress, come in and see us. Call us and come in at your earliest convenience, and let us work up a gum disease treatment plan with you.

It will go through and correct the issues you already have going on, plus it can help to protect your mouth from further issues down the line. Don't let your gum disease control you. Take control over your mouth, and your oral health, and come in and see us today!
