What is Gum ReshapingGum Reshaping is a cosmetic surgery that changes the shape of your gums. We cut away unneeded gum tissue that has receded and exposing too much or too little of your teeth. Gum Reshaping is totally a personal decision. If you feel like you want to have a better-looking smile, then this is the right option for you.How Does It Work. After your mouth is completely numbed with a local anesthetic, we will go in with either a diode laser or a scalpel to cut, graft, or shape the unwanted gum tissue, and we will sculpt a more uniform gum line that way you will have a nice tooth to gum ratio that you will be proud of. A diode laser will cauterize while it cuts, which means there will be less bleeding and even less chance of an infection. The whole procedure can be done within one visit. How Much Pain Will I Be In With every oral surgery, there is some pain. With this one it all depends on how much we have to sculpt and cut out. If we use the diode laser there won't be any sutures, but after the procedure your gums will still be sore and swollen for 24-48 hours. You can rinse with warm salt water, which will reduce the swelling and soothe your gums. You can also take medication, but please stay away from aspirin as this is a blood thinner and typically increases bleeding. You will also need to stay away from hard foods until your gums are comfortable with food that has more consistently.
